Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (November 11)- The Brahmas will be toting along a large roster addition with them as they travel to Allen for a Metroplex matchup today as they announced the signing of former NHL defenseman, Luke Sellars for the 2009-10 season.

Sellars, 28, comes to Texas after spending a season overseas playing with two clubs and collecting nine points (3 G, 6 A) in 12 games. At 6-foot-1 and 195 lbs, the bruising blueliner made his professional debut during the 2001-02 spending time with the Atlanta Thrashers (NHL), Chicago Wolves (AHL) and Greenville Grrrowl (AHL). In 2002, Sellars led all ECHL defensemen with seven goals in the playoffs and was a pivotal player in Greenville's Kelly Cup Championship victory.

The following season, Sellars went back to Chicago for the 2002-03 campaign after four games in Greenville and notched his career best season tallying 15 points (4 G, 11 A) and 117 penalty minutes in 42 games.

Brahmas Head Coach Dan Wildfong expects great things from his newest roster addition.

"Luke will be a solid stay at home defenseman who adds grit and strength to our blue line. He is a great fit with our current d-core and we look forward to him taking the ice," Wildfong said.

Sellars played three seasons in the Juniors with the Ottawa 67's (OHL) and finished with 95 points (21 G, 74 A) and 370 penalty minutes in 171 games. In 2001 the defenseman was instrumental in leading the 67's to the 2001 OHL Championship. The Toronto, ONT native was a second round choice, 30th overall selection of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Entry draft.

The Brahmas will return home to the NYTEX Sports Centre in time for the weekend as they take on the Amarillo Gorillas Friday evening. Fans in attendance on Friday can come hungry as it is $1 Hot Dog Night. On Saturday Texas hits the ice once again to face Southern Conference foe, Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees for the first time this season. Both games are 7:05 PM starts; tickets can be purchased by calling (817) 336-4423 or logging on to www.brahmas.com. The NYTEX Sports Centre is Wi-Fi friendly due in part of a partnership with Great Auk Wireless.
