Odessa Jackalopes News Release

(Odessa, TX) - The Central Hockey League's Odessa Jackalopes are using their first "Specialty Jersey Weekend" to raise money for the fight against Cystic Fibrosis.

The team will wear special Cystic Fibrosis jerseys in their two games this weekend against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Friday and the Amarillo Gorillas on Saturday. A jersey auction will be held after the Saturday contest.

"The purpose of the project is two-fold," said Jacks Assistant General Manager, Bill Levy. "We want to raise funds to fight this disease that attacks about 30,000 children in our country, but we also want to generate awareness in the community."

The jerseys are a replica of the NHL's St. Louis Blues, but with a logo on the front for the Great Strides Walk - which is held each year on the first Saturday of November and is the largest national fundraiser for the battle against Cystic Fibrosis. Along with the Jackalopes, Walter's Restaurant and Permian Basin Homes and Land also coordinated the specialty jersey fundraising efforts for this weekend.

25-year-old Amanda Wood will drop the ceremonial first puck before both games. Amanda is a Permian Basin resident who is living with Cystic Fibrosis.

Both games begin at 7:05 PM at the Ector County Coliseum. Tickets can be purchased through jackalopes.org or by calling (432) 552-7825.

The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is in the middle of their 13th season in the Permian Basin. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
