Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON)- Peterborough Petes defenceman Cam Lizotte announced this afternoon in conjunction with John Newman Contracting a new fundraising campaign called 'Play with Heart.' In the campaign, $3 will be donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation local Peterborough office for every shot blocked by the Petes this season.
Lizotte, who is entering his third season with the Petes after attending Toronto Maple Leafs rookie camp this summer, hopes to raise both money and awareness for heart health this season and beyond. The Falconbridge, Ontario native has been impacted personally by heart disease, as his father Paul suffered a heart attack in 2009. Additionally, Cam's 6 year-old billet brother Blake has a heart condition.
"I've had several friends and teammates have to stop playing the game they love due to heart issues, so I'm happy to support such a great cause. It's exciting that the entire Petes team is on board to help raise money and awareness," noted Lizotte.
Lorraine Farthing, a heart attack and stroke survivor, also spoke at the event as a heart health ambassador. She told her story, explaining that "My stroke caused me to be paralyzed on my left side, but I have a fantastic team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and a medical team helping me make a full recovery. This initiative will help raise crucial funds and awareness so that no family will have to go through what mine did."
On the ice, the Petes pre-season continues at home against the Hamilton Bulldogs on Thursday, September 17 at 7:05pm. Tickets are available here for Monday's game, or by calling (705) 743-3561. In addition, all Petes pre-season games will be broadcast live on the PetesOHLhockey YouTube channel.
