Calgary signs former USC linebacker

(Calgary) – Today, Calgary Stampeders' Senior VP of Football Operations/Head Coach, Tom Higgins, announced the free agent signing of Linebacker Frank Strong.

As per Club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Pro

Entering his first season with the Stampeders ... originally signed as a free agent on June 3, 2005 ... signed with the San Francisco 49'ers on April 24, 2002 ... played in both the 2002 and 2003 seasons... attended San Diego Chargers mini-camp in 2005.

2003

Strong played in 17 regular-season games and the 2003 West Division Semi-final. He recorded six special team tackles on the season.

2002

Played in six games as a rookie ... saw action mostly on special teams, posted four tackles ... recorded two special team tackles vs New Orleans on November 20.

College

Played tailback, free safety and linebacker at USC ... recorded 60 tackles, six tackles for a loss, five passes defensed, one interception (24 yards), two forced fumbles and two recovered fumbles as a senior ... also posted six rushing yards on five carriers ... appeared in all 12 games and recorded 20 tackles, four passes defensed, one interception and one blocked punt as a junior ... also led the team in kick-off returns with 25 for 540 yards (21.6 avg.) and returned six punts for 79 yards (13.2 avg.) ... spent most of the sophomore season as reserve tailback ... finished with seven carries for 27 yards and three interceptions for 34 yards ... appeared in 11 games as a freshman ... ended season with 37 carries for 193 yards and three receptions for 22 yards.

Prepped senior season at Franklin High (Stockton, CA) ... Prep Star All-America and USA today All-USA honourable mention ... finished season with 1,460 yards, 39 scores and two touchdowns on four interceptions ... spent first three years of high school at St.Mary's High (Stockton, CA) ... finished with 1,600 rushing yards, 22 touchdowns and 17 interceptions for 457 yards on seven touchdowns ... Public policy and management major.
