Calgary Kid Cracks Opening Night Roster

After concluding spring training the Calgary Vipers Professional Baseball Club have finalized their 23 man roster for the start of the 2011 regular season on the road in Yuma, Arizona on Tuesday May 24th with a double-header against Jose Canseco and the Scorpions. Among the players on the roster is outfielder Aaron Dunsmore who graduated from Dr. E.P. Scarlett high school in 2006. The left-handed hitter also used to play for the Calgary Cubs Midget AAA program and had an impressive camp batting .579 with eight runs scored in the seven games played. Joining the rookie in the outfield will be mainstays Drew Miller and Jonny Kaplan along with fellow rookie in New York resident Bryan Burke who hit an impressive .500 during camp.

In the infield veterans Kevin Price, Wilver Perez, Brian Rios, Jimmy Rohan, and Matt Kavanaugh will be joined by Peoria, Arizona rookie Louie Templeton. Anchoring the team behind the plate will 6'3" newcomer Justin Tellam.

On the mound Calgary's starting rotation will consist of returnees Dusty Gober and Mark Michael along with newcomers Troy Cate, Manny Ayala, Garret Holleran, and Stephen Whalen. In the bullpen closer Claudio Galva returns along with Rob Naegele, Scott Watson, and Saskatoon's Dan Morari. Newcomers Chris Bodishbaugh and J.J. Whetsel who both hit 96 miles per hour in camp will round out the staff along with Julian Arballo who did not allow an earned run in four innings pitch during spring training.

The Vipers return to Calgary and Foothills Stadium for their home opener on Thursday May 26th at 6:30 PM MDT against their Alberta rivals, the Edmonton Capitals.
