October 10, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club today announced they will play a trio of regular season games this season at the historic Stampede Corral.
"The Corral Series" presented by Adrenalin Source for Sports, will feature the Hitmen hosting the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday, Feb. 1, the Regina Pats on Wednesday, Feb. 6 and the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday, Feb. 8. All will be 7:00 p.m. starts in the vintage building that first opened on Dec. 15, 1950 and was the original home of the Calgary Flames from 1980-83.
As a tribute to the city's hockey history, the Hitmen will dedicate each game to a former elite team who once called the Stampede Corral home by wearing commemorative jerseys of the Calgary Centennials, Calgary Wranglers and Calgary Cowboys.
The series will feature a number of exciting events including an opening night pre-game celebration and beer gardens, a luncheon, merchandise and other activities that will make this a week to remember.
"We are excited to play in a building that connects the roots of junior hockey to our current Hitmen team and fans," commented Hitmen Vice President Mike Moore. "There have been some great memories and players that visited the Corral over the past 68 years and to be part of these memories for one week will be special for our organization, Hitmen fans and all Calgary hockey fans."
Tickets, including game packages, will go on sale to the public on November 26th and will be available through Ticketmaster. Additional details for the Corral Series including the luncheon, opening night festivities and other events will be announced in the coming month.
The Calgary Cowboys were a professional team that played two seasons in the World Hockey Association from 1975-1977. The Calgary Centennials were a junior hockey team that played in the Western Canada Hockey League from 1966-1977 and the Calgary Wranglers were a junior hockey team that played in the Western Hockey League from 1977 until 1987.
