Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club is proud to announce they set a new Word Record at today's 13th annual Petro-Canada Teddy Bear Toss.

When Ian Duval scored Calgary's first goal, 4:52 into the first period, fans tossed 26,919 stuffed toys on the ice. This broke the previous record of 22,736 set by the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night.

"The support of our fans today was overwhelming, they have exceeded all expectations in helping make this event a huge success for charity," said Hitmen Director of Business Operations Kip Reghenas. "Thanks to our fans, thousands of families in the Calgary area will have a brighter holiday season."

"I'm always amazed by the generosity of Calgarians," said Fred Scharf, Petro-Canada Vice President, Retail and Wholesale. "When the bears started flying off our shelves at our retail stations, I knew this was going to be a big year for the Petro-Canada Teddy Bear Toss. I'm just thrilled that together we are all able to make this Christmas a bit happier for 26,919 Calgary kids."

The Hitmen also set a franchise attendance record for the Teddy Bear Toss game with 17,341 fans.

Bears collected are being distributed among several local charities including Toy Mountain, Book Bags for Kids, Calgary Fire Department and the Salvation Army.

Several Hitmen players will also visit the Alberta Children's Hospital (2888 Shaganappi Trail NW) on Monday morning at 10:30 a.m.

Calgary returns to action Wednesday night when they host the Prince Albert Raiders. Game time is 7 p.m.
