CALGARY HITMEN Hitmen Suit up with Don Cherry

October 25, 2017 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club will wear specially-designed Don Cherry-themed jerseys and socks on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m., when they host the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Scotiabank Saddledome. It's all part of WHL Suits Up with Don Cherry to Promote Organ Donation - Presented by RE/MAX which sees all 17 Canadian Western Hockey League markets host this awareness game.

The limited edition uniforms will only be worn Saturday and display Hitmen masks on both black socks and a black jersey designed as a Don Cherry sports jacket. A high white collar, red tie, pocket square, custom cuffs featuring Don Cherry's initials with a Canadian maple leaf and a Kidney Foundation of Canada shoulder patch complete the one-of-a-kind look.

"Creating awareness surrounding the importance of organ donation in Canada is both close to my heart and paramount to helping people across this beautiful country of ours," said Cindy Cherry, daughter of Don Cherry and fund development & marketing associate for The Kidney Foundation of Canada. "It makes you wonder why everyone hasn't registered to be an organ donor like I have. I'm grateful to both the Western Hockey League and RE/MAX for coming together on this important initiative in support of The Kidney Foundation of Canada."

The Kidney Foundation is a cause close to the Cherry Family as Don's son, Tim, received a kidney transplant from his sister Cindy, who will be part of a pre-game ceremonial puck drop.

When doors open at 6:00 p.m. the first 900 fans will receive a special-edition Don Cherry bobblehead while 2,500 limited-edition Don Cherry trading cards, courtesy of Upper Deck, will also be handed out upon entry. There will be a Kidney Foundation Booth, located on the concourse behind section 227, featuring a life-size Don Cherry cardboard cut-out for photo opportunities.

Fans will be able to bid on the stylish Don Cherry-inspired uniforms at ElevateAuctions.com. The online auction opens game time Saturday and will close on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 8:00 p.m., with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to the local chapter of The Kidney Foundation. In addition to game-worn and game-issued uniforms, fans can also bid on a Don Cherry-autographed jersey.

Close to 4,500 Canadians are currently awaiting an organ donation - 76 per cent whom require a kidney.

Hitmen single game tickets are available online at HitmenHockey.com, by visiting Ticketmaster or the Scotiabank Saddledome box office.
