Calgary Flames Sign Aulie

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the signing of defenceman Keith Aulie.

In 32 games as captain the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League this season, the 6'6", 217lb rearguard has recorded two goals and 15 assists for 17 points while accumulating 42 penalty minutes. Aulie is fresh off a gold medal win as a member of Team Canada at the recent 2009 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa, ON.

A fourth round draft choice of the Flames in the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Aulie is currently in his fourth season with the Wheat Kings.

A first round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings in 2004, the Rouleau, Saskatchewan product has scored eight goals and 45 points in 208 career games in the WHL. As well, he has accumulated 237 minutes in penalties.

By coming home with a gold medal, Keith became the first Wheat King to help Team Canada capture the World Junior Hockey Championship since Peter Schaefer did it in 1997.

Aulie is expected to return to the Brandon lineup on Friday when the Wheat Kings host the Saskatoon Blades.

The hockey club, the City of Brandon and the Province of Manitoba plan to make special presentations to Keith prior to the opening face-off.
