KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has reassigned 17-year-old forward Jason Gardiner to the Selkirk Steelers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. The move is effective immediately and reduces the club roster to 25 players (14 forwards, 8 defensemen and 3 goaltenders).

Gardiner, a native of Winnipeg, MB, appeared in 11 games this season, collecting a goal and three points, along with 21 penalty minutes and a minus-2 rating. After suffering a broke leg in early October, Gardiner missed 27 games before retuning to the line-up on December 31 against Spokane. Gardiner joins a Steelers team who is 29-15-0-0 and are in second place in the MJHL's Addison Division.

"We've sent (Gardiner) down so he can get more playing time and continue his development," explained Tory. "He will rejoin the team once the Steelers' season is completed."

The club returns to action this Friday, January 9th, as the Americans take on the division-rival Seattle Thunderbirds at their new arena, ShoWare Center, at 7:35 pm. The game will be broadcast live, via WHL WebTV, at the Americans' home away from home, Kimo's Sports Café and R.F. McDougall's in Richland, starting at 7:35 p.m. Fans can also catch all the action live on NewsTalk 870 AM, starting with the Sterling Savings Bank Warm-up Show at 6:15 p.m.
