Cabrera Homers, Dogs Fall in First Half Finale

The Venezuelan pulled a two-out home run over the extended glove of Greenville (25-44) right fielder Marino Campana to pull the Dogs (33-35) within a run in the sixth inning. The solo shot was the switch hitter's third long ball of the season and his first at The Joe.

Third baseman Welfrin Mateo collected a single and a double, giving him three multi-hit games in his first eight games as a RiverDog.

Charleston starting pitcher Deivi Garcia (0-1) pitched five innings, surrendering two runs while striking out seven. The 19-year-old has 17 punch outs in his first 10 innings with the RiverDogs. Righty Janson Junk threw the final four innings in relief, giving up a pair of Drive insurance runs in the ninth.

Greenville has now won all three series against the Holy City this season. The Drive took two of three in each of the first two meetings in Greenville this season. The Drive finished the first half with a league-worst 25-44 record.

Charleston got the tying run aboard in the bottom of the seventh but failed to push across the tying tally. The Dogs rounded out the first half with an 0-21 record when trailing after seven innings making them the only team in the SAL without a victory in such scenarios.

Ballpark Fun

RiverDogs players and fans stood in unison, honoring friends and loved ones who had been affected by cancer on Cancer Awareness Day. Dads were also on display for Father's Day as they were allowed to run the bases with their kids postgame and participated with their sons and daughters in between-inning games.

The South Atlantic League All-Star Game in Greensboro, North Carolina is on Tuesday at 7:05. The RiverDogs will be represented by third baseman Chris Hess and outfielder Steven Sensley. The Rhode Island product Hess leads Charleston with 25 RBI while the Louisiana native Sensley has a team-high nine home runs. Charleston opens up the second half on Thursday in Lexington at 7:05.
