Boise Hawks News Release

BOISE, Idaho - A leadoff home run by Yaniel Cabezas in the sixth inning provided the winning run, as the Boise Hawks opened the second half of the Northwest League season with a 5-4 victory over the Spokane Indians at Memorial Stadium.

The victory for the Hawks secured their first series win since July 4-6 and was their second series win vs. Spokane at home this season.

The Indians took an early 1-0 lead in the first on a Brett Nicholas RBI single, but the Hawks responded in a big way, as Rafael Lopez launched a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning to give Boise a 3-1 lead.

Spokane would rally, getting within 3-2 in the third on a Nicholas RBI fielders' choice, taking the lead in the fifth on a Nicholas sacrifice fly and an RBI double by Drew Robinson. However, Boise would tie the score in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Lopez, taking the lead on the Cabezas' long ball in the sixth.

The Hawks bullpen did the job tonight, putting up zeroes in the final four innings to secure the victory. Dustin Fitzgerald struck out Nick Vickerson with two in scoring position to end the seventh, with Bryce Shafer picking up his sixth save, getting Vickerson to fly out with two men on to close the game.

Lopez went 3-for-3 with four RBI in the victory, while Dustin Harrington went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Jin-Young Kim allowed a run in two innings of relief for his second win.

Robinson, Trever Adams, and Hirotoshi Onaka each had two hits for the Indians, with Nicholas driving in three in the loss.

The Hawks hit the road to Everett tomorrow to open a five-game series with the Aquasox - Willengton Cruz getting the ball opposite Bennett Whitmore at 8:05 p.m. (PT).
