Collin Cowgill to the Majors
The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that the team has selected the contract of outfielder Collin Cowgill from Triple-A Reno.
Cowgill started his professional career with the Yakima Bears in 2008 after being selected by the D-backs in the fifth round of the 2008 Draft. Cowgill hit 11 home runs while batting .304 in 20 games with the Bears before he was promoted to Single-A South Bend in 2008. The promotion came a week after he was named Northwest Player of the Week for the period of June 30-July 6.
Cowgill was a non-roster invitee at the Diamondbacks spring training this year, but was sent to the Triple-A Reno Aces at the start of this season. With the Aces, Cowgill hit .354 with 24 doubles, 13 home runs, 70 RBI, 95 runs scored, and 30 stolen bases in 33 attempts. Twice named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week, Cowgill was also a PCL Mid-Season All-Star.
Now in his fourth professional season, the 25 year-old Cowgill will wear No. 4 for his first stint in the Major Leagues.
Mini plans and individual game tickets are on sale now to see the current crop of Yakima Bears. Tickets can be purchased at the downtown Bears office at 17 N. 3rd Street, Suite 101 and online at yakimabears.com.
