
Big Regional Tournament Coming to Keizer

The 14 year-old Babe Ruth Pacific Northwest Regional Tournament will be coming to Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer, OR from July 31st through August 6th. Ten teams from five states and one Canadian province will be competing for a berth in the Babe Ruth World Series in Glen Allen, Virginia (August 21-27). All teams will be participating in the Opening Ceremonies at 4:15 pm on July 31, 2011, at Volcanoes Stadium prior to the Volcanoes vs. Yakima game which is scheduled to begin at 5:05pm. Each participant will be in full uniform, and will be introduced and honored by the Regional Commissioner. After the introductions, both the American and Canadian National Anthems will be played and the Ceremonial First Pitch will be thrown. The top umpires from the Salem Baseball Umpires Association have been assigned to work the Tournament.
The Tournament Host is the Keizer Knights. They earned the right to host the tournament via a bid to the Pacific Northwest Regional Commissioner and the National Babe Ruth Commissioner. The Knights, have won numerous Tournaments and received an invitation and participated in the National Youth Baseball Hall of Fame Tournament in Cooperstown, New York in 2009. Three other teams from Oregon round out the states representatives. The Salem Steelheads earned the right to participate by winning the North Oregon State Tournament, the North Oregon. The State Tournament runner-up, the Beaverton Mound Time, will also be in the Tournament. Representing South Oregon is the Willamette Valley All-Stars from Eugene/Springfield. Idaho's State Champion will be coming from the city of Meridian, while Montana's State Champion will be coming from Kalispell. Also participating in the Regional Tournament will be the State Champion from Wyoming and the Alberta Provincial Champion from Canada.
Twenty-three games will be played over the six day tournament - all at Volcanoes Stadium. The ten teams have been divided into two five-team pools. The top two seeds from each pool will advance to Championship Saturday. The number one seeds will play the number two seeds from the opposing pool with the winners advancing to the Championship game at 5:00 pm on Saturday, August 6th. The game times are 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm, and 7pm on August 1st through the 5th, and the games on Championship Saturday, August 6th are at 10 am, 1pm and 5pm.
The Keizer Knights' first game is Tuesday, August 2nd versus Idaho's State Champion at 4pm. The Knights will play under the lights on both Wednesday and Thursday when they face Beaverton's Mound Time team (Wednesday, August 3rd) and Southern Oregon's entry, the Willamette Valley All-Stars (Thursday, August 4th). Pool play will conclude for the Knights with a 4pm game versus the State Champions from Wyoming at 4om on Friday, the 5th. The Salem Steelheads will also begin play on Tuesday, August 2nd with a 7pm contest versus South Washington. On Wednesday, the 3rd, the Steelheads will take on North Washington at 4pm. The Salem squad will end pool play with games against Alberta (Thursday, 4pm) and Montana (Friday, 7pm).
The Pacific Northwest Regional Babe Ruth Tournament is a great way to watch future high school, college, and potentially Major League stars play in a high-caliber tournament for the right to represent their region on the national stage during the upcoming World Series. The 14-Year-Old Babe Ruth National Champion could be playing during this prestigious tournament! Daily admission is $8.00 for adults, and $6.00 seniors ($55 & over) and children 12 & under. Week-long tournament passes are $40 for adults and $30 for seniors/children.
The Knights roster includes: Alex Alvarado, Jacob Wood, Hayden Gosling, Mickey Walker, Andy Bevens, Jordan Emerich, Dustin Meyer, Devin Varay, Gregon Angstrom, Jake Handran, Tanner Heinige, Noah Dahl, Andy Armstrong and Alex Roberts. Alvarado, Walker, Bevens, Angstrom, Handran and Heinige all played for the Knights during the National Tournament in Cooperstown.
