Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends (3-3) grabbed a wire-to-wire victory over the Oklahoma City Blue (3-3) 127-116 in front of another sold out home crowd.
Texas got off to a hot start, jumping to an 18-2 lead less than five minutes into the game. The visitors tightened the gap to single digits twice before the buzzer, but Brandon Fields got the final say in the first to hoist Texas to a 37-26 advantage after one. Eight of the nine Legends contributed in the second as they built up their largest lead of the night (+21) going into halftime.
Sedrick Barefield heated up in the third with a 10-point effort to lead OKC in a rally attempt. The Blue went on a 17-6 run to the fourth to cut the lead to eight points. Seconds into the final quarter, Yudai Baba and Antonius Cleveland edged Texas back to double-digits and the Legends rolled to the buzzer in their first home win.
Eight Legends finished with double-digit scores led by Dakota Mathias with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Trahson Burrell came off the bench for an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double while Nate Mason joined the fun in his first appearance in the starting lineup with 17 points, 12 assists. Texas shot only 48% from free throw (compared to Oklahoma's 90%) but knocked down 51% from the field and 33% outside to best the Blue's 42% and 21% from three.
Luguentz Dort had a game-high 32 points for Oklahoma City while DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell neared a double-double with 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists off the bench.
