Burns Strong Start and Early Offense Guide Ducks Past Curve 4-2

The Akron RubberDucks back a strong start from Tanner Burns with early offense to top the Altoona Curve 4-2 on Saturday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

The RubberDucks jumped out in front for the first time in the series when Jose Tena tripled to start the bottom of the first before coming home to score on Brayan Rocchio's two-run home run to make it 2-0 Akron.

Mound Presence

Burns was strong for RubberDucks in his fourth start of the season. After allowing back-to-back one out hits to plate a run in the third, he settled in to strike out the final two batters of the inning to avoid any more damage. In total, Burns tossed five inning allowing just one run while striking out six. Jerson Ramirez followed with two thirds of an inning allowing a run. Tim Herrin tossed two and third scoreless innings. Kevin Kelly tossed a scoreless ninth inning to close out the win.

Duck Tales

Cleveland Guardians infielder Yu Chang went 0-for-3 with a defensive assist in five innings as the third baseman in his second rehab game since being placed on the injured list April 15. The RubberDucks added on in the bottom of the second when Marcos Gonzalez smashed a solo home run to make it 3-0 Akron. After Altoona added a run in the third, Akron answered back in the fifth when Will Brennan walked with the bases loaded to make it 4-1 Ducks.

Notebook

Rocchio's home run broke the tie with George Valera for the team lead with three..Burns' win was his first at the Double-A level...Kelly's save ties him with Nic Enright for the team lead with three...Game Time: 2:22...Attendance: 3,059.

The RubberDucks will conclude their series with the Altoona Curve on Sunday, May 1 at 2:05 p.m. Akron right-hander Hunter Gaddis (1-1, 4.91 ERA) will face Curve right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski (0-1, 5.28 ERA).
