Madison Capitols News Release
Coming into the series with Green Bay, Austin Burnevik was towards the top of the Capitols in points this season, but after an explosive weekend, the Ham Lake, Minnesota, native is tied for the team lead in points. Burnevik found the back of the net four times against Green Bay in two games, including three times on Saturday to help propel Madison to the team's ninth victory of the season. In total this weekend, Burnevik tallied six points, which puts him in a great spot for when the league awards come out on Saturday.
Madison snapped a season long four-game losing streak on Saturday night to move back ahead of .500 on the win-loss record this season. Madison now sits only three points back of third place in the conference and maintains their four points back spot of Green Bay that the team had coming into the weekend. The win also ended an eight-game point streak for Green Bay as well.
Also shining in the game was Rainers Rullers, who found the back of the net and assisted on two of Burnevik's goals. The Latvian forward scored the opening goal of the game for Madison, which at that point tied it up at 1-1.
Although he allowed more goals than he has in the past couple of games, the Capitols finally gave Carsen Musser some goal support on Saturday night. Statistically, Musser had been one of the best goaltenders in the league, but the Capitols had only won three of his eight starts coming into the game. The team has now captured points in seven of his nine starts this season.
The Wisconsin Cheese Cup presented by Odyssey now sits at one game a piece after the first weekend of the series, which will continue on Wednesday night as the Caps travel to Green Bay once again. That game kick starts a three-game holiday weekend for Madison as the team travels to Muskegon on Friday and Saturday night as well.
When the Capitols do return home, it's a Dollar Beer Night presented by Coors Light. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by heading to tickets.madcapshockey.com.
