TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums'(23-32) couldn't get the bats rolling, falling to the Gateway Grizzlies(28-29), by a final score of 3-0.
After both teams were scoreless in the first three innings, Gateway finally got on the board in the fourth. Ben Waldrip hit an RBI infield single, scoring Tyler Tewell. On the same play, Blake Brown scored on an error, to make it 2-0. In the seventh, Cody Livesay walked and two batters later, Craig Massoni hit a double to the right field gap, scoring Livesay, and that was all the Grizzlies would need.
Vincent Molesky picked up the complete-game shutout victory to improve to 3-5. In nine innings of work, he spread out seven hits and struck out eleven Tucker Simpson, in his first start of the season, went four innings, allowing two unearned runs on four hits, three walks, and fanned two. With the loss, he's 0-1. Jacob Lanning came in to relieve Simpson and kept the Bums in the game with a five inning performance, allowing one run, one hit, one walk, and struck out six.
Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums continue this nine-game home-stand with game two of this three game series against the Gateway Grizzlies. Kramer Champlin gets the call of the Bums while Jon Jones will hurl for Gateway. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the Miller Lite Pre-Game Show at 6:45pm, on 101.9- The Bay.
