Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums were rained out of a scheduled game with the Frontier League East Division leading Kalamazoo Kings on Wednesday night at Homer Stryker Field in Kalamazoo.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms rolled through the Kalamazoo area just as the Beach Bums were finishing batting practice. The storms brought consistent rain throughout the evening, soaking the playing surface at Homer Stryker Field and leaving the dugouts flooded.
The Beach Bums and Kings will play a doubleheader at 5:05 pm tomorrow.
The contest was the first rainout for the Beach Bums in 2008. Traverse City has been rained out just three times in franchise history counting Wednesday. All three rainouts have occurred on the road. Traverse City is 3-1 in doubleheader contests, sweeping a pair of games at Windy City on August 7, 2007 and splitting a pair of games on August 29, 2006 at Kalamazoo.
The Beach Bums (22-18) trail the Kings by two games. RHP Bryan Cryer (0-0, 6.75) will make his second professional start for the Beach Bums opposite LHP Trent Lare (3-2, 4.68) for the Kings in the opener with Ryan Gehring (3-3, 3.42) going for the Beach Bums in the night cap opposite RHP Jeff Long (4-1, 4.59). The games can be heard live on The Fox FM beginning with the Labatt Blue On Deck Show at 6:45 pm.
