Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums'(18-29) fell behind early against the Schaumburg Boomers(23-25), and couldn't find their way back into the game, losing 13-4, in game two of this week's three game series.
In the first, with one away, Schaumburg got the offense rolling with a solo home run by Jordan Dean, his second of the season. Griff Gordon and Kenny Towns singled then Chris Robinson walked to load the bases. Ino Patron was then hit by a pitch to force home Gordon. James Keller cleared the bases with a three run double, extending the Boomers' lead to 5-0.
After a scoreless second, Patron hit a solo homer for his fifth of the year, and it was 6-0. In the fourth, Schaumburg loaded the bases again on singles by Nick Oberg and Dean, and a Gordon walk. Two batters later, Paul Kronenfeld fly ball to dead center carried over the wall for a Grand Slam, and the lead was at ten.
The Beach Bums started to chip away in the fifth. Christian Santisteban started the inning with a single. Then, with two outs, Marcos Derkes also singled. Ryan Bottger got the Bums on the board with an RBI single to center, bringing Santisteban in, and Traverse City was on the board. In the sixth, Giancarlo Brugnoni walked with one out. Casey Rodrigue then followed with a single to left. Santisteban ripped a two run double to right to score Brugnoni and Rodrigue, and the Bums were now down seven. Jeff DeBlieux popped a fly to the left side of the infield. It was eventually dropped by the pitcher and Santisteban scored from second to make it a 10-4 game.
The Beach Bums had some momentum but Schaumburg added two insurance runs in the seventh inning on a James Keller RBI double and on RBI single by Dean. Then, in the eighth, it was a Patron RBI double that put the game away for the Boomers.
Scott Schultz, after being spotted an early lead, got the win for Schaumburg to improve to 4-2. He went six innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, and walk, and he struck out four. Sasha Kuebel had a rough start today, surviving only 2/3 of an inning, allowing five runs on four hits. He falls to 1-4 on the season.
