
Washington "Slams" Joliet Slammers in Game Two

The Washington Wild Things (25-21) and the Joliet Slammers (28-20) squared up for a Wednesday, July 6, 2016 afternoon battle. The Wild Things defeated the Slammers with a score of 5-3 in the nine-inning pitcher's match.
RHP Chase Cunningham (3-4) earned the win on the mound; he pitched for six innings, allowed four hits, recorded three strikeouts and lowered his season ERA to 2.88. RHP Zac Grotz (0-2) recorded his ninth save of the season during the outing.
The Slammers were the first to score; three consecutive hits in the bottom of the first caused the Wild Things to trail 3-0. However, Washington answered in the second with hits from Logan Uxa, Austin Wobrock and Ricky Rodriguez.
The pitching staffs exchanged scoreless innings until a Slammer single was shot in the sixth, and a David Popkins' sacrifice fly allowed Andrew Heck to score in the eighth. Logan Uxa was the standout player of the game - he went 3 for four with one RBI and two runs scored.
