Normal, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies fell to the Normal CornBelters 3-0 on Wednesday night at the Corn Crib, as Normal starter Charlie Gillies tossed a complete game one-hitter.

Gateway's offense recorded just a lone hit that came in the third inning when Cody Livesay laced a triple to right centerfield. At one point, Gillies (1-0) retired 17 batters in a row.

RHP Adam Eggnatz (3-1) was solid once again for the Grizzlies (25-24) and took a tough loss. He threw 6.2 innings while giving up just two runs.

After working out of trouble in the opening frame, Eggnatz allowed three straight singles to start the second as Normal (22-25) took a 1-0 lead. A double play ball led to another run scoring in the frame.

Eggnatz settled down nicely and gave the ball to RHP JaVaun West in the seventh with runners on base. He worked out of a jam to keep the score at 2-0. West went 1.1 innings in relief and gave up a tally in the eighth to make it 3-0.

The Grizzlies had their best chances to score against Gillies early in the game. They left two runners on in the first and two more on in the third. After ending a threat in the third, Gillies did not allow another baserunner until the ninth. Gillies threw 121 pitches in the shutout and faced the minimum.

Gateway and Normal finish their three-game set at the Corn Crib on Thursday. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. The Grizzlies send RHP Will Landsheft to the mound against Normal RHP Michael Schweiss.

The game can be heard on the Grizzlies Radio Network, which airs Thursday on 1400 AM KJFF and online at www.GatewayGrizzlies.com/Radio.
