Bums Can't Sweat Rascals in Loss

O'FALLON, MO - The Traverse City Beach Bums'(24-35) came back from a 3-0 deficit but fell to the River City Rascals(28-29), by the final score of 6-5

River City's offense started off as hot as the day was, scoring three runs in the first inning. Kyle Gaedele's two-run homer, his sixth of the season, gave the Rascals a 2-0 lead. After a Josh Ludy double, Clint Freeman drove him home for another run. The Bums' bats were just as hot as they responded with a three run top of the second.

Elijah Trail led off the inning with a double to right then scored when Steven Patterson laced an RBI single to right. Giancarlo Brugnoni followed with a double, moving Patterson to third. During the next at bat, Patterson scored on a wild pitch and Brugnoni moved to third. Jeff DeBlieux then grounded out, scoring Patterson and tying the game at three.

In the top of the third, Traverse City took a 5-3 lead. Ryan Bottger doubled to start the frame. He moved to third on a Will Kengor ground out then scored when Trail doubled to left. Patterson drove home Trail with an RBI single to right. The lead was short-lived as the Rascals responded in the bottom of the inning. Willi Martin hit an RBI infield single then, with the bases loaded, Alexi Colon walked to tie the game. River City took the lead for good in the sixth when Josh Silver scored on an error.

Michael Gunn only went a third of an inning but nabbed the win to improve to 3-0. Joeanthony Rivera allowed just an unearned run in a third of an inning of work but is stuck with the loss to drop to 0-2. Zac Treece, for the second straight night, finished the game and got the save for his 12th of the season.

Tomorrow evening, the Beach Bums take on the River City Rascals, in the finale of a three game series, and for the final time in the 2016 regular season. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05pm and Tom Willms will have the Miller Lite Pre-Game Show at 4:45pm, on 101.9- The Bay.
