Washington Rallies But Falls Short in Southern Illinois

MARION, IL- The Washington Wild Things took on the Southern Illinois Miners in game two of a three game series Saturday night at Rent One Park. The Miners got the best of the Wild Things in a 6-5 final score victory. Brooks Trujillo secured the mound victory, finishing the day with two strikeouts and a 3.90 ERA in 6.2 innings pitched. Sam Agnew Weiland is given the loss, finishing with three strikeouts and a 4.10 ERA in five innings pitched.

 

The Miners took an early lead in the bottom of the 1st with a sac fly from Nolan Earley, bringing home Shane Kennedy to give Southern Illinois a 1-0 lead. The Wild Things tied it up in the top of the 2nd on a sacrifice fly from Logan Uxa that brought home David Popkins. The Miners quickly answered in the bottom of the inning with a Shane Kennedy RBI single that put Southern Illinois out in front 2-1.

 

In a back and forth game the Wild Things found themselves in a tie again when a sacrifice fly to the right fielder brought home Ricky Rodriguez, tying the game at 2-2. The Miners bats came alive in the bottom of the 5th with an RBI single from Nolan Earley and a theee run home run from Steve Marino that put the Minors out in front 6-2. Washington cut into the lead with a two run shot from Logan Uxa, making it 6-4. The Wild Things again cut into the lead in the top of the 8th with a solo home run from David Popkins that cut the lead to 6-5

 

The Wild Things finish up their series against the Miners tomorrow night at Rent One Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 EDT.
