Crestwood, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies exploded for 10 runs on 13 hits as they crushed the Windy City ThunderBolts 10-2 in the middle game of a three-game set at Standard Bank Stadium.

The Grizzlies (30-31) got to Windy City starter Clay Chapman immediately in the first inning, as Cody Livesay walked to start the game and Craig Massoni later drove him in with an RBI single. Chapman (6-4), who came into the game with a sub-3.00 ERA, would only last 2.2 innings as Gateway's offense continued to pile it on.

After Logan Davis singled home another run to make it 2-0 in the second, the Grizzlies scored four more times in the third. With the bases loaded, Blake Brown scorched a fly ball off the centerfield fence to plate all three runs as he cruised into second base with a double. Ben Waldrip made it 6-0 with a rip into right field for an RBI single as Brown scored.

RHP Will Landsheft started the game for Gateway and threw two scoreless frames to begin things. In the third, Landsheft (4-5) allowed a pair of runs as Windy City (28-31) cut the deficit to 6-2.

The teams would wait out a rain delay in the sixth inning that lasted 43 minutes, but Gateway resumed play with a bang. With the bases loaded, Livesay lined a single into centerfield for two runs. Seth Heck then stepped in and rocketed an RBI single into right field while the Grizzlies scratched across another tally to pull ahead 10-2.

RHP Jon Pusateri replaced Landsheft and dazzled out of the bullpen. He faced nine batters and retired all of them, while striking out four. LHP Chris Scarlett tossed a scoreless ninth inning to secure the win.

Four different Gateway hitters recorded two hits, while Brown led the team with 3 RBI. Livesay and Massoni both had a pair of RBI in the win.

The Grizzlies and ThunderBolts play the rubber game of the series on Sunday evening at Standard Bank Stadium. Gateway sends RHP Vince Molesky (3-5, 3.48 ERA) to the hill against Windy City RHP Tyler Murphy (2-3, 3.74 ERA). First pitch is at 5:05 p.m.

The game can be heard on the Grizzlies Radio Network, which airs Sunday online at www.GatewayGrizzlies.com/Radio. Sam Levitt has the play-by-play call.
