Frederick Keys News Release
The Frederick Keys battled back from three deficits on Wednesday night but could never get over the hump as Wilmington's two-out RBI-double from Ryan Stovall in the bottom of the tenth sent the Keys to a 5-4 defeat. The defeat is was the opener of an eight-game road trip for the Keys.
Down 2-0 after a Yem Prades two-run second inning home run the Keys got two-out RBI singles from RF Steve Bumbry and SS Manny Machado to tie the game up. Another home run would give the Blue Rocks the lead again in the fourth inning off of the bat of 3B John Whittleman. Trailing 3-2, 3B Dale Mollenhauer walked, took second on a groundout and scored on another two-out Bumbry single to knot the game at 3-apiece. Bumbry was 3-for-4 with two RBI's on the night.
The Keys would find themselves down again in the eighth inning 4-3. This time the Keys tied it after Wilmington committed consecutive errors to allow 2B Jonathan Schoop and Machado to reach base. CF Miguel Abreu grounded into a fielders choice to bring home the tying run.
But the Keys could never get the lead and Wilmington got the better of Frederick in the Keys first extra inning road game of the year. Abreu saw his league leading 16-game hitting streak come to an end. He hit .373 during the streak that began on June 25th.
