August 21, 2011 - International League (IL1)
Durham Bulls News Release
(Norfolk, VA) Tim Beckham's single in the 10th gave Durham its only lead, and it was enough to beat Norfolk on Sunday 4-3.
With the win and a Gwinnett loss, the 74-53 Bulls have a six-game lead over the Braves with 15 left to play. Any combination of nine Bulls wins and Braves defeats will give the Bulls a fifth straight South Division title.
Beckham's single to right on a 3-2 pitch followed one-out base hits by Ray Olmedo and J.J. Furmaniak off Sean Gleason (0-1).
Rob Delaney earned his ninth save in the 10th, with help from Olmedo and Russ Canzler, who both made diving plays in the final half inning. Durham went 7-3 on a 10-game road trip, committing only two errors over the 10 games. Dane De La Rosa (5-4) sent it to extra innings with two scoreless frames.
Durham had 12 hits, three from Brandon Guyer, and two each from Beckham and Leslie Anderson.
The Bulls are off on Monday, and then resume play against Norfolk (49-79) on Tuesday in Durham. Matt Moore will take the mound against Chris Tillman. Tickets are available on www.durhambulls.com. Tuesday starts the final home stand of the regular season.
