Durham Bulls News Release
Durham NC - Luis Rivas singled off the wall in left field to score Kevin Witt and end a four hour, eleven minute game with the Norfolk Tides, 6-5. After an initial celebration over a Kevin Witt home run, the umpires ruled that the ball landed just shy of the yellow line, bringing both teams back onto the field. Rivas hit a fly ball just out of the reach of left fielder Michael Tucker to score Witt and end the game.
Sandy Martinez tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the ninth with his fourth home run of the year off Bulls RHP Tim Corcoran.
B.J. Upton hit his fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning off RHP Jose Lima. Kevin Witt was 3-6 with two doubles and a run scored, and recent arrival Joey Gathright went 2-6 with a run in his first game this season with the Bulls.
Catcher Kevin Cash (1-0), the ninth pitcher for the Bulls in the game, pitched a scoreless 14th to pick up the win. LHP Jeriome Robertson (0-4) took the loss for the Tides, going two and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk.
Durham will look to continue their winning ways against Norfolk on Saturday at 7:00 p.m., as RHP Brian Stokes takes on LHP Evan MacLane at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Tickets are available at the Durham Bulls Box office, by phone at (919) 956-BULL or online at www.durhambulls.com.
