TONIGHT'S GAME: The first of a four game series and the first of eight meetings with the Red Sox, the first of four at McCoy Stadium. Game five of an eight game road trip. Richmond is 2-2. The Braves were 2-6 vs. the Red Sox last season, 1-3 at McCoy Stadium. This is the 25th of 48 games vs. North Division opponents, Richmond is 10-14 vs. the North Division. The ninth of 24 road games vs. North Division opponents (Richmond is 1-7). The Braves are 325-324 all-time vs. Pawtucket. The Braves are third in the South, 16.5 and a half games behind first place Charlotte. The Red Sox are fifth in the North, 9.5 games off the lead.

LAST NIGHT'S GAME: The Braves beat the Charlotte Knights 6-2 Thursday at Knight's Stadium. The Braves erupted for five runs in the eighth inning to earn a split of their four game series with Charlotte. The Braves Carlos Mendez knocked in a run with a first inning single to give Richmond a 1-0 lead. That score stood until the eight inning. In the eighth the Braves blew the game open. Jonathan Schuerholz ground ball was misplayed, allowing a run to score. Jamal Strong knocked in two runs with a single to give the Braves a 4-0 lead. Mendez chased in two more runs with a single to make it 6-0. The Knights averted a shutout with two runs in the home half. Pedro Lopez produced a run with a single and Casey Rogowski knocked in a run with a ground ball. Chuck James worked 6.2 scoreless innings to earn the win. Phil Stockman worked two scoreless innings to close it out. Stephen Randolph took the loss. Mendez had three hits for the Braves.

AS THE ROSTER TURNS: The Braves made two roster moves today, releasing LHP Scott Mullen and promoting INF Jamie Trejo from Class-A Myrtle Beach. Yesterday the Braves activated LHP Chuck James from the DL, ending his rehab assignment, and optioned him to Richmond. The Braves now have an active roster of 24 (12 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders, and four outfielders). Martin Prado, Wes Timmons, and Anthony Lerew on the DL. The Braves have made 61 roster moves this season. Trejo is the second player promoted to Richmond from A-ball this season. 11 Braves have been promoted to Atlanta from Richmond this season.

STREAK STUFF: Scott Thorman has hits in 10 straight games (15-37 .405). That streak equals the club's longest of the season. Thorman's seven game RBI streak ended yesterday Bill McCarthy has hits in nine straight starts. Martin Prado has hits in five straight games (9-21 .429). RHP Phil Stockman has worked his last 18 innings in nine appearances without allowing a run and permitting just four hits. Braves relievers streak of 17 straight innings without allowing an earned run ended last night. The Braves season high five game home run hitting streak ended last night.

ON THE LEADER BOARD: Scott Thorman is seventh in the league in hitting (.314). He is second in home runs (14) and tied for fourth in RBI (39). He has the IL lead in hits (70). The Braves are second in the IL in stolen base percentage behind Charlotte. They have swiped 46 and have been caught 14 times (77.9%). Their 14 caught stealings is the fewest in the IL. The Braves four wins when trailing after eight innings is tops in the International League. The Braves seven shutouts is tied for third in the IL

IN THE BIG SHOW: Six current Atlanta Braves have been on the Richmond roster this season. C Brayan Pena is hitting .321 in 11 games with Atlanta. The other five former R-Braves are all pitchers. Ken Ray, who was called up opening day, is 0-0 2.20 with three saves in 29 games. Chad Paronto is 0-0 2.45 in 15 games. Tyler Yates is 0-0 8.10 in four games with Atlanta. Two A-Braves returned from Richmond following rehab assignments. Horacio Ramirez is 2-1 3.24. Macay McBride is 1-0 4.24.
