Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons start an eight-game road trip with the first of a four-game series against the Charlotte Knights at Knights Stadium (7:15p.m.). The Herd will be looking for some revenge as Charlotte swept the Bisons in a four-game series at Dunn Tire Park, April 29-May 2. RHP Jeremy Guthrie gets the start for Buffalo tonight. Guthrie is undefeated in seven starts and the Bisons are 6-1 when he takes the mound. The Knights will counter with RHP Tim Redding, who is looking for his second consecutive win after pitching 6.0 innings in a victory over Norfolk on Sunday.

SHUTOUT WORK: So far this season, Jeremy Guthrie has been scored on in only two of the 39 innings he has pitched. He gave up two runs in the 4th inning on April 19 against Richmond. A five-run inning by Durham on Sunday (5th inning) snapped a 23 consecutive shutout inning streak for Guthrie. On the year, Guthrie has limited opponents to a .203 batting average.
INSTANT OFFENSE: Franklin Gutierrez has reached base safely in his last seven games. He also has recorded a hit in eight of his last ten games, averaging .355 (11-31) over that span. That includes a grand slam in a 5RBI-game, Wednesday night in Buffalo. Gutierrez is currently the team leader in runs (39), hits (60), doubles (16), and tied for first in walks (29). He is second on the team in batting average (.291) and steals (9). His 39 runs are good enough for third in the International League.
STRONG PEN: Edward Mujica's two shutout innings added to what has been a great start of the month for the Bisons bullpen. So far this June, Herd relievers have posted a 0.88ERA in 40.2 innings of work. The pen has allowed just five walks while striking out 38 batters. On the year, the relievers have posted a 2.94ERA with 198 strikeouts in 220.1 innings.
ROSTER MOVE: The Cleveland Indians have signed infielder Jason Alfaro and assigned him to Buffalo. Alfaro began the season hitting .198 (18-91) with three home runs and eight RBI with Indy. Two of those homers came on May 9 against Charlotte (4-5, 2R, 2RBI). To make room on the roster, RHP Travis Foley was optioned to Double-A Akron. Foley has made two stints with the Herd and has posted a 3.18ERA in two games and 5.2 innings of work.
