Durham Bulls News Release
Durham, NC - Justin Ruggiano hit a walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Durham Bulls a 6-5 win over the Louisville Bats on Sunday evening at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Combined with Rochester's 5-4 loss at Scranton Wilkes-Barre, the Bulls now have a two game lead in the Wild Card race.
The Bulls clawed back from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI-single by Jorge Velandia, but the Bats reclaimed a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth inning when Jeff Bannon doubled to left field scoring Anderson Machado. Bulls left fielder Jon Weber led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk, and then Ruggiano launched a line drive over the Blue Monster to give the Bulls the win.
RHP Chad Orvella (3-2) picked up the victory pitching an inning and a third allowing one run on one hit. RHP Brad Salmon (1-2) took the loss allowing two runs on two hits while striking out one.
The Bulls have an off-day on Monday, but they will return to action on Tuesday night to face the division rival Richmond Braves at 7 PM at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. For tickets, go to www.durhambulls.com or call the box office at (919) 956-BULL.
