IL1 International League

Bisons notes

August 19, 2007 - International League (IL1) News Release

TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Ottawa Lynx in the second game of a four-game series from Lynx Stadium (1:05 p.m.). The Herd has won three straight, including a 10-6 decision in last night's series opener. On the hill today will be LHP Aaron Laffey. The southpaw allowed just three runs in eight innings on Tuesday to defeat Rochester in his first game back from a Major League promotion. Ottawa will counter with RHP Landon Jacobsen.

WILD RACE: The Bisons are 2.5 games back of Durham and 1.5 games behind Rochester in the IL Wild Card race. The Bulls host Louisville tonight while the Red Wings are in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to face the Yankees. The Bats beat the Bulls, 8-7, last night while the Red Wings topped the Yanks, 2-1 in 10 innings.

IL BATTING RACE: How close is the race for the top average in the league? After his 2-3 performance last night, Ben Francisco (.325) is just .0000746 points behind Rochester's Jose Morales (.325). Morales did not play last night. Since August 2, Francisco has hit in 16 of 17 games with a .371 (26-70) average. Francisco won the NY-Penn League batting championship (.349) in 2002.

HE'S NO JOKE: Dating back to June 2, LHP Aaron Laffey is 8-0 with a 1.95ERA in 12 games (73.2IP, 55H, 64K). He's the first Bisons' starter to win eight straight decisions since Tim Drew in 2002. On Tuesday, he retired 15 straight batters in an eight-inning victory over Rochester. That was his first start since earning his first M.L. win, August 9 against the Chicago White Sox.

NEW SPOT: Keith Ginter was moved to the #2 spot in the order on Tuesday for the first time this season. In the five games since, Ginter has hit .550 (11-20) with two home runs, six RBI, three walks and eight runs scored. Ginter leads the Bisons with 58 walks on the year (T7th in the IL) while his .383 on-base percentage is 2nd on the Herd (Ben Francisco, .388).

SUPER JOE: Infielder Joe Inglett hit an inside-the-park home run in the third inning last night that put the Bisons up for good. It was Buffalo's first inside-the-parker since Jose Morban did it two years ago to the day, August 18 in Richmond. Inglett has driven in 13 runs in his last 10 games. Last night was his second four-RBI game this season.

HOMER, HOMER: Ryan Mulhern has homered in consecutive games for the second time this season, also accomplishing the feat on April 24-27. Mulhern leads the Bisons in homers (16), doubles (34), RBI (73) and slugging percentage (.507).
