Bullpen Protects Early Lead as Soddies Win Third Straight

San Antonio, Texas - The Amarillo Sod Poodles won a third straight game against the San Antonio Missions with a 6-3 victory on Saturday night at Wolff Stadium.
The Sod Poodles jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after two innings, as Stone Garrett drove in a run with an RBI double in the first and belted a two-run homer in the second off San Antonio lefty Jerry Keel (1-4).
Drey Jameson, in his sixth Double-A start, began his outing with two scoreless frames. Jameson ran into trouble in the third, allowing three runs as the Missions tied the game.
With the score tied 3-3 in the top of the fourth, Soddies shortstop Geraldo Perdomo drilled a go-ahead two-run double off the left field fence. Perdomo, who collected three hits in the game and came a homer shy of the cycle, propelled Amarillo to a 5-3 lead.
Amarillo's bullpen was sensational after the Soddies took the advantage. Justin Lewis (1-1) was the first reliever to enter the ballgame, spinning scoreless fourth and fifth innings. Right-hander Tyler Jones tossed two scoreless frames, followed by Mitchell Stumpo's scoreless eighth.
In the meantime, San Antonio's relief core was also solid. Henry Henry, James Reeves, and Sam Williams combined for four scoreless frames.
In the top of the ninth, Ryder Jones drove in a run with a sac fly off righty Jose Quezada. The swing put the Soddies ahead, 6-3.
In the ninth, Blake Rogers entered and allowed two baserunners. Rogers then induced a game-ending double play to pick up his 10th save of the season.
Perdomo was joined by outfielder Dominic Fletcher, who also had a three-hit game.
The Sod Poodles continued their solid play since the start of August, improving to 20-11 since that month began.
Amarillo and San Antonio wrap up their series on Sunday evening at 6:05 p.m. The contest marks Amarillo's final road game of 2021. The Sod Poodles send right-hander Bryce Jarvis to the mound, while the Missions counter with righty Pedro Avila.
