Bullpen Blanks Reading in 6-0 Shutout Win

Reading, Pennsylvania- The Portland Sea Dogs (29-32, 69-61) complete suspended game with 5-2 loss before going on to shutout the Reading Fightin Phils (29-32, 56-72) 6-0 to tally fifth shutout win of the season.

Roman Anthony rocketed his first Double-A home run in game one while Kyle Teel recorded his first multi-hit game at the Double-A level (2-4). In game two, Ryan Miller retired all six batters he faced with strikeouts before Alex Hoppe earned his first win with 2.0 scoreless. Christopher Troye fired 2.0 scoreless with four strikeouts before Cody Scroggins pitched a perfect inning to close. Chase Meidroth launched his seventh homer.

Carlos De La Cruz put Reading on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer to left field.The game was then suspended with one out in the top of the third on Thursday night due to rain.

On Friday, the game resumed in the top of the third where Roman Anthony rocketed his first homer at the Double-A level. The solo blast to right field put Portland on the board, 2-1.

Baron Radcliff hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth to extend the 3-1 Reading lead.

Madison Stokes launched a solo homer of his own in the bottom of the sixth to and the third homer of the day for the Fightins put Reading on top by three.

Phillip Sikes cut the lead in half in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to left field to score Nathan Hickey.

Reading completed the scoring with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to secure the 5-2 lead.

Reading reliever LHP David Parkinson (9-5, 3.63 ERA) earned the win after pitching 4.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits while walking two and striking out three. The save was issued to RHP Orion Kerkering (6). The loss was issued to Portland starter RHP Isaac Coffey (6-4, 3.71 ERA) after tossing 2.0 innings allowing two runs on one hit while walking one and striking out three.

In Friday's regularly scheduled game, Chase Meidroth ignited the scoring with a solo homer in the top of the first. The solo shot marked his seventh of the season and Portland led, 1-0.

The scoring continued in the top of the fifth as Teel recorded his first double at the Double-A level. The two-run double scored Anthony and Rosier before Teel came home to score on a throwing error by the right fielder and Portland led 4-0.

Two runs scored in the top of the seventh after a bases-loaded wild pitch allowed Blaze Jordan to score before an RBI single from Alex Erro would extend the 6-0 lead. The score held and the Sea Dogs recorded their fifth shutout of the season.

Portland reliever RHP Alex Hoppe (1-1, 4.85 ERA) earned the win after pitching 2.0 scoreless innings allowing just three hits while striking out four. He did issue a walk. The loss was issued to Reading reliever (0-5, 4.03 ERA) after pitching 3.0 innings allowing one run on three hits while walking two and striking out one.

The Sea Dogs return to FirstEnergy Stadium tomorrow, September 8th for game five of a six-game series against the Reading Fightin' Phils. First pitch for game five is slated for 6:45pm. Portland will start RHP Hunter Dobbins (5-5, 4.52 ERA) while Reading will give the ball to LHP Josh Hendrickson (2-8, 5.02 ERA).
