Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis - An offensive outburst by the Rockford Rivets was too much for the Bullfrogs as they fell 11-6. The Rivets recorded 17 hits compared to the Bullfrogs seven, and that served as the difference. The loss moves the Bullfrogs second half record to 17-16 and their overall record to 32-37.
It was the Rivets that opened the scoring early off of starter Matt Ellenbest (Morehead State). Neil Tyrell (Lewis University) led the game off with a solo shot to right field to give the Rivets 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Bullfrogs would respond in the bottom of the second as they took advantage of a leadoff single by Josh Hollander (Kent State). He made his way to third with less than two outs and scored on an RBI groundout by Brian Lees (Southeast Missouri State).
The scoring would continue for the Rivets in the third as they plated four runs. Braden Williams (Texas Tech) reached on an error to start the inning. A double by Tyrell gave the Rivets runners on second and third with nobody out. David Cronin (UIC) drove in both of those runs on a single up the middle. A balk and an RBI single by Corey Wright (Parkland CC) gave the Rivets a 5-1 lead in the third. The Rivets tacked on one more run in the fourth on a fielder ' s choice by Tyrell.
Matt Ellenbest had a short start on the mound as the right-hander was forced from competition due to an arm injury. Before leaving the game, Ellenbest went three and a third innings and allowed three runs on six hits. Jacob Padilla (Dubuque) came on in relief. The left-hander gave up three runs on one pitch as Ricardo Ramirez (UIC) hit a three run home run in the top of the sixth and gave the Rivets a 9-1 lead.
The Bullfrogs showed some fight late in the ballgame as they would score three runs in the bottom of the eighth. With runners on first and third and two outs, Colton Onstott (Dodge City CC) hit a three run home run to make it a 10-5 ballgame. But it would be too little too late as the Bullfrogs were unable to complete the comeback.
Max Frederick (Lackawanna CC) for the Rivets put together an impressive performance. Going eight innings, Frederick allowed just five runs on five hits to earn his first victory of the season.
Offensively, the Bullfrogs were led by Josh Hollander. The shortstop went two for four with a triple and scored two runs. Clemons reached base four times and Brad Hamilton (Kent State) doubled in tonight ' s game.
The Bullfrogs finish the series against the Rivets tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
