Green Bay Rockers News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs and Wisconsin Rapids Rafters continued their four-game, home-and-home series with game two on Monday night in Wisconsin Rapids. Roberto Baroniel (Nova Southeastern) started on the mound for the Bullfrogs and did not allow a run to the Rafters in seven innings, while Paul Jacobson (South Dakota State) went 3-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Bullfrogs past the Rafters by a score of 9-0 .

Baroniel came into Monday's game allowing only three earned runs in his last three starts. He continued that trend on Monday, throwing seven innings of shutout baseball, surrendering only three hits to the Rafters to pick up his first win of the season. Monday's performance was Baroniel's second straight start in which he has not given up an earned run.

Cody Pollack (Midland) and Ivan Vieitez (Lenoir-Rhyne) followed after Baroniel by pitching scoreless eighth and ninth innings to complete the shutout.

The Bullfrogs scored their first run of the game in the fifth inning. Tony Brandner (No. Illinois) lead off the inning with a walk, before advancing to second base on a Jacobson sacrifice bunt. Brandner would then move up to third base on a groundout and later scored on a two out Brian Celsi (California) RBI single.

Green Bay opened up the game in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, scoring eight of their nine runs in the final three innings - including a five-run ninth inning.

In the seventh inning, Brandner would score the second run of the game for Green Bay. Again, Brandner started the inning off with a walk and advanced to second base on another Jacobson sacrifice bunt. Matt Beaty (Belmont) pushed Brandner up to third base with a single, and Julian Russell (Chicago State) scored Brandner on a bunt to make it 2-0 in favor of the Bullfrogs.

Green Bay added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning to extend their lead to 4-0. The Bullfrogs loaded the bases on two walks and a single with nobody out to start the inning before Ryan Howell (Chabot) scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Brandner. Jacobson then followed Brandner with a double that scored Ryan Koziol (Gulf Coast State) for the second run of the inning.

In the ninth inning, the Bullfrogs plated five runs on five hits. Both Celsi and Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State) had RBI doubles in the inning and Jacobson had his third hit of the game that also scored a run, to extend Green Bay's lead to 9-0.

Celsi and Bekakis each were 2-for-4 on the night with two RBI a piece for the Bullfrogs.

Nick Blackburn (Illinois) took the loss for Wisconsin Rapids, throwing five innings while giving up one run on five hits.

The Bullfrogs and Rafters will continue their series on Tuesday night in Wisconsin Rapids, before playing the final game of their series on Wednesday in Green Bay. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM from Witter Field on Tuesday night.
