
Anchors lose on short-end of pitcher's duel

Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell to the Madison Mallards 2-0 Monday night at Knute Nelson Memorial Park. The Anchors are now 6-21.
Madison first got on the board in the fourth against starter Sean Stutzman. Robbie Tenerowicz singled to start the frame and Drew Carlile singled with one out. A walk to Cody Stevens loaded the bases and Kevin Walsh entered in relief. Walsh got Will Krug to hit into a fielder's choice to bring home Tenerowicz and give the Mallards a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, Alexandria put together a rally as Jake Bergren singled with one out and stole second. Dalton Leuschke drew a walk to put two on, but after a pitching change, Craig Nennig grounded into a double play to end the threat.
Graylon Brown came on in relief in the ninth and allowed a leadoff homer to Trent Higginbothem for the second Madison run.
Stutzman (0-2) took the loss going 3.1 innings allowing one run on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Walsh pitched 2.1 scoreless innings without allowing base runners. Austin Smith also had a scoreless appearance pitching two scoreless innings giving up just a single and he collected one strikeout. Brown pitched one inning and gave up one run on one hit with one strikeout.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Jordan Lee (CF) - It was a quiet offensive night for the Anchors but Lee provided a bit of excitement with two base hits and a walk.
Notes: The Anchors are back in action Tuesday night as they travel to St. Cloud to start the final home-and-home series of 2014 with the Rox...Spencer Koopmans (0-0, 8.30) will be making his second start of the season...The game, starting at 7:05 p.m., can be seen live at www.youtube.com/user/NorthwoodsLeague.com.
