Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - The Northwoods League's newest member, the Kenosha Kingfish, made their inaugural trip to Green Bay and Joannes Stadium on Thursday for the first game of a two-game series against the Bullfrogs. The Kingfish were met with another quality pitching performance by the Bullfrogs' pitching staff and lost game one by a score of 4-2 in their first trip to Green Bay.
Ethan Rosebeck (Pima Community College) pitched a quality start for the Bullfrogs, throwing six innings of six-hit baseball, picking up the win. Rosebeck struck out three batters and allowed just two Kingfish runs. The lone runs for Kenosha came on a Pat Porter solo home run in the fourth and a fielder's choice that scored a run in the fifth inning. In his six innings pitched, Rosebeck faced more than four batters in an inning just once, which came in the fourth inning.
After Rosebeck exited, the bullpen took over and continued the pace set by Rosebeck. Matt Sabel (UW-Oshkosh) came in to pitch the seventh inning and retired the Kingfish in order. Josh Glick (Nova Southeastern) followed Sabel and pitched the eighth and ninth innings, giving up just one hit, and picked up the save for the Bullfrogs.
The Bullfrogs bats got out to an early start, scoring their first two runs of the ball game in the bottom of the second inning. John Soteropolous (California) led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second off of a Dane Hutcheon (Montevallo) sacrifice-bunt. Matthew de la Rosa (Nova Southeastern) would then plate Soteropolous with an RBI-single. De la Rosa would eventually come around to score on a Jamie Ritchie (Belmont) RBI-single that gave the Bullfrogs a 2-0 lead after two innings.
Green Bay would tack on another run in the fourth inning when Andrew Goldstick (Washington Univ.) reached on a single, advanced to second on a walk, then moved to third on a balk. He then scored on a fielder's choice, which was hit by Ritchie. Ritchie ended the night with two RBI, and Goldstick finished the night 2-for-3.
The Bullfrogs added an insurance run in the seventh when Ivan Vieitez (Lenoir-Rhyne) was hit by a pitch, stole second base, and scored on a Ryan Koziol (Gulf Coast State) RBI-single. Dean Long (Emporia State) continued his hot hitting, finishing the night 2-for-3.
Zach Morganstern took the loss for the Kingfish, pitching five and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and five walks.
The Bullfrogs and Kingfish return to action for the final game of their first series on Friday. Friday's game will be Aurora BayCare Medical Center Strike Out Stroke awareness featuring the ZOOperstars! First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm from Joannes Stadium.
