Waterloo, Iowa - The Alexandria Blue Anchors continued their slow start to the 2014 campaign with a 12-1 loss to the Waterloo Bucks Thursday night at Riverfront Stadium. Alexandria's record is now 0-3.
Blake Bass got the start for the Anchors and held the Bucks scoreless through the first three frames but ran into trouble in the fourth. Patrick Fiala started the bottom half of the inning off with a solo homer to left field putting Waterloo ahead 1-0. The next three batters all reached base highlighted by a double off the bat of Logan Sherer to bring in two and extend their lead to 4-0. After a ground out to shortstop, Steven Pollakov drew a walk and to put two on for Jake Riffice, who singled in Sherer to make the score 4-0.

Froom retired the first two batters of the sixth but surrendered a single to Sherer and hit Ryan Nagle with an 0-2 pitch to put two runners on. A passed ball moved both runners into scoring position and they both scored on a Pollakov single, putting the game away at 10-1.
In need of pitching help, left fielder Ben Allen came on to pitch the bottom of the eighth. David Kerrian hit a leadoff double and scored on a one-out single by Sherer. Allen loaded the bases and walked Riffice to bring in a run to give the final score of 12-1.
