Pondick Set for First Start of Season

Madison, Wis. - The Madison Mallards look to move to 2-1 tonight against the undefeated La Crosse Loggers (2-0) at Warner Park. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.

The Mallards played a doubleheader last night versus the Kalamazoo Growlers, winning the first 6-2 but falling in the second, 5-6. Christian Taugner (Brown) tossed a gem in the first game, recording one strikeout, one walk and giving up one hit in five innings of work. Starting Mallards pitcher Sterling Sharp (Eastern Michigan) ran into trouble in the second game, walking three Growlers and giving up three hits. Sharp was charged with all six of the Growlers runs.

Eight Mallards players recorded hits against Kalamazoo in yesterdays doubleheader. Alex Bacon (North Florida) and Robbie Tenerowicz (California) led the team with two hits apiece while Spencer Blacksher (Southwest Baptist) and Brian Rodemoyer (Illinois State) drew a team high three walks.

Toeing the rubber tonight for the Mallards is 6'2", 185-pound righty Alex Pondick (Montevallo). The hurler out of Southside, Alabama was 5-4 in his freshman season with the Falcons, making 14 appearances and compiling 37 strikeouts.

The Loggers are scheduled to start southpaw Westin Stringer (Jones County JC). The 6'1", 195 pound sophomore from Terry, Mississippi appeared in 11 games with the Bobcats, posting a 7-0 record and 3.30 ERA.

The game tonight also features a bobblehead giveaway. The Jay Hazen Dentistry for Madison Zipline Maynard that actually ziplines will be handed out to those entering the ballpark, based on availability. The ZOOperstars will also be providing in-game entertainment throughout the game.
