Green Bay Rockers News Release

Battle Creek, Mich. -- The Bullfrogs scored one in the eighth inning and added two more in the ninth, but still fell to the Bombers in Battle Creek by a score of 7-4.

Green Bay took an early 1-0 lead, scoring one run in the first inning on a single from Nick Torres. It was one of two RBI on the night for Torres.

In the bottom of the second inning, however, the Bombers responded with five runs off of starting pitcher Matt Esparza. The big blow in the inning was a three-run home run from Battle Creek's Jared Foster. The Bombers left the inning with a 5-1 lead.

Both teams were silent offensively throughout the middle innings, as both starting pitchers dominated through the rest of their nights. Esparza settled down nicely, retiring ten consecutive batters at one point. He went seven innings, allowing just the five earned runs.

The Bullfrogs narrowed the Bomber lead to 5-2 in the top of the eighth, as Torres again drove home Burleson. However, Battle Creek responded with two more in the bottom half of the eighth, both earned to Green Bay reliever Marshall Zahn.

Trailing 7-2 heading to the ninth, the Bullfrogs were able to rally to score two, but couldn't bring any more runs home. Battle Creek held on for a 7-4 victory. Both teams are now 25-36 on the season.

The win went to Caleb Vincent (3-2). The loss to Esparza (1-3). The Bullfrogs remain in Battle Creek to finish the two game series on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 CDT. The game can be heard on 107.1 WOCO-FM in the Green Bay area.
