Green Bay Rockers News Release

After leading through the early innings, the Bullfrogs fell behind and lost a high-scoring affair to the league-leading Wisconsin Woodchucks 13-8 on Tuesday night.

The Bullfrogs controlled the early innings and led 3-0 after a three-run third inning. In the third, David Armendariz drove home Ryan Matranga and Brian Celsi with an RBI single, and then Nick Stein came home to score on Ransom LaLonde's RBI single. This was LaLonde's third RBI in the last two games.

The Woodchucks, however, tied it up at 3-3 with three of their own off of Green Bay starter Dylan Mendoza in the fifth inning. The newest Woodchuck, Bryant Munoz, first scored on an RBI single from outfielder Brooks Braga. Braga and Mike Bernal then scored on a double by Wisconsin's leader in hitting, Eric Filia-Snyder. Filia-Snyder had three RBIs on the night.

The Bullfrogs regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Brian Celsi took starter Ben Burke deep to right for his first home run of the 2012 Northwoods League season, making the score 4-3 in favor of Green Bay.

It was all Woodchucks from this point forward.

Wisconsin tacked on four in the sixth, running starter Dylan Mendoza from the game in favor of reliever Bud Jeter.

With a balanced attack, the Woodchucks tacked on four more in the eighth inning off of a combination of Robb Woodcock and Mac Acker, and two more in the top of the ninth, both charged to Acker.

The Bullfrogs were able to rally for one in the eighth with the help of two Wisconsin errors. The Bullfrogs brought home three more in the ninth, including an RBI single from Billy Moon, off of relief pitcher Josh Merril, but it wasn't enough and Wisconsin defeated the Bullfrogs by a final of 13-8.

The loss is charged to Mendoza (0-1), who gave up six earned runs in five plus innings of work. Jeter gave up one earned run, Woodcock gave up four, and Acker gave up two.

Jeter, Woodcock, and Acker combined to walk nine Wisconsin batters on the night.

The Bullfrogs have fallen to 7-16 in the second half, 29-29 overall. The Woodchucks are now 20-3 in the second half, now five games ahead of second-place Madison in the Northwoods League South.

The Bullfrogs remain at home tomorrow evening to complete the season series against the Woodchucks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
