Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers lost 4-2 Tuesday night to the Stingers in Willmar, MN on a walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth.

With the loss the Honkers have now lost the first two games of the three-game series.

Willmar struck first with two runs in the bottom of the third inning off Rochester starter Mason Pingel (Western Illinois). Both runs were unearned due to an error by third baseman Jordan Parr (Illinois).

Pingel pitched extremely well in his first start of the summer. The Western Illinois freshman tossed 5.0 innings and allowed just the two unearned runs on a hit and a walk while striking out three Willmar batters. Pingel surrendered just one hit but was given the no decision despite his strong performance.

Jordan Millbrath (Augustana) pitched 3.0 effective shutout innings in relief of Pingel.

Down 2-0 in the top of the ninth inning, Reid Roper (Illinois) connected with a clutch two-RBI single to tie the game 2-2, only to allow Stingers shortstop Max Kuhn (Kentucky) to hit the game-winning home run off of him in the bottom half of the frame. Roper was handed the loss and falls to 2-3.

Honkers center fielder Dakota Smith (Kansas) went 2 for 3 in the game and left fielder Justin Parr (Illinois) finished the night 2 for 4 with a run.

The Honkers (9-15, 24-35) and Stingers (15-9, 35-24) will play the finale of the series tomorrow in Willmar, MN at 7:05 PM. Lefty Matt Kent gets the start for the Honkers against Stingers left hander Tanner Banks (Utah). Kent is 3-4 with a 2.39 ERA in nine games. Kent leads the Honkers pitching staff with 67.2 innings pitched. Banks has only pitched in 3.2 innings this summer but has not yet allowed a run.

The Honkers will be back in Rochester on Sunday August 5th to take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats.
