Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wisc. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs (8-15) got off to an early offensive start in the opening frame and never looked back, securing the 5-4 victory over the visiting Lakeshore Chinooks (9-14) from Joannes Stadium Thursday evening. The Bullfrogs tallied a pair of runs with two outs in the first inning and held onto the advantage for the remainder of the contest. The Frogs also snap their four-game losing streak with the triumph tonight.
Both teams conclude the home-and-home series tomorrow evening for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch from Kapco Park in Mequon, Wisc. Fans can tune in to the live radio broadcast on WOCO (107.1 FM) or online at WOCO.Caster.FM.
Eddy Gonzalez (Junior, Incarnate Word) had a monster night at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, two singles and three RBIs. Adrian Damla (Sophomore, UC Irvine) went 2-for-4 with a RBI and one run scored in just his second start of the summer. Tate Soderstrom (Freshman, Univ. of Arizona) contributed a 2-for-5 effort with a pair of singles.
The Bullfrogs had no runners on base with two outs in the first inning before two straight hits and a walk set up a two-run single by Gonzalez to put Green Bay in front 2-0. Lakeshore answered with one run in the third inning to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Gonzalez struck again in the bottom of the third with a RBI single and scoring on a wild pitch to stretch the advantage out to 4-1.
Lakeshore attempted to mount a rally in the sixth inning as the Chinooks posted four straight hits and a RBI walk to trim the deficit down to 4-3. The visitors had the bases loaded with nobody out after the string of hits, but Bullfrogs relief pitcher Colby Morris (Junior, Middlebury College) cleaned up his own mess striking out the side to keep it a one-run game.
Green Bay added an important insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI base-knock from Damla to make it a 5-3 game. The Chinooks would not go quietly in the eighth inning as a RBI single from Jack Dunn trimmed the margin down to 5-4. Lakeshore had the tying run at first base in the ninth, but Travis Kuhn (R-Freshman, San Diego) secured his fourth save of the season.
Bullfrogs starting pitcher Hugh Chapman (Freshman, Georgia Tech) earned the win, improving to 1-2. Lakeshore starter Brendan McGuigan took the loss, falling to 1-1. Chapman posted his longest outing of the summer, tossing four innings with one earned run allowed on two hits and one strikeout.
