Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wisc. - After the host Green Bay Bullfrogs (5-10) grabbed the one-run lead in the fourth inning, the visiting Rockford Rivets (10-5) responded with nine unanswered runs en route to the 12-7 victory from Joannes Stadium Tuesday evening. The Rivets used a huge five-run sixth inning to secure their third straight win over the Frogs in as many meetings this summer.
Both teams conclude the two-game series tomorrow night as the Bullfrogs look to return to the win column before their crucial four-game road trip this weekend. First pitch is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start from Titletown. A live video webcast of the contest can be streamed online through the official Northwoods League website. Fans can also listen to the live audio broadcast on WOCO Radio (107.1 FM, 1260 AM) or online at WOCO.Caster.FM.
Tate Soderstrom (Freshman, Univ. of Arizona) led the Bullfrog offensive efforts with a 2-for-5 night at the plate with a RBI and one run scored. Alejandro Gonzalez (Freshman, Hillsborough CC) went 1-for-3 with a double in his first at-bat of the contest and a pair of runs scored in his Bullfrog debut. Collin Luty (Junior, Northern Kentucky) finished 1-for-3 with a RBI single.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first two innings of action before the Rivets drew first blood in the third with a two-run double and also scoring on a catcher throw-down to second base to take the early 3-0 lead. Green Bay answered quickly with four straight tallies of their own in the bottom of the third and fourth frames to snatch the 4-3 advantage.
The Bullfrogs got on the board in the third with a sacrifice fly by Jake Munoz (Sophomore, Univ. of San Francisco) scoring Gonzalez from third base to make it a 3-1 game. In the fourth, Soderstrom scored on a error by the Rockford shortstop to trim the deficit down to 3-2 before Cooper Morrison (Sophomore, UC Davis) scored on a wild pitch to knot the score at 3-3. Luty then delivered a RBI single into left field scoring Rudy Aguilar (Sophomore, St. Johns) to give the hosts their first and only lead of the contest.
Green Bay's advantage would not last as Rockford quickly opened the offensive floodgates with five runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-4 lead. The scoring flurry was highlighted by a two-run single from Jake Vander Wal and a two-run homer from Pat Loeffler. The Rivets added insurance with two runs each in the eighth and ninth to extend the deficit out to a commanding 12-4 lead. The Bullfrog bats showed life in the final frame with three runs in the ninth, but it would not be enough as Rockford secures the five-run triumph.
Rockford southpaw relief pitcher JT Baksha got the win, improving to 1-0. Green Bay reliever Colby Morris (Junior, Middlebury College) took the loss, dropping to 0-2. David Toth (Freshman, Hillsdale College) compiled a season-high five strikeouts in three innings of relief.
