Green Bay Rockers News Release
Battle Creek, Mich. - The visiting Green Bay Bullfrogs (5-9) pounded 11 runs on a season-high 17 hits in a convincing 11-7 victory over the host Battle Creek Bombers (3-10) from C.O. Brown Stadium Monday evening. The Bullfrogs scored their first 10 runs of the contest all in the first four innings of action in an impressive offensive display on the road.
The Frogs return to the friendly confines of Joannes Stadium tomorrow night for the opener of a two-game home series versus the Rockford Rivets. First pitch is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start from Titletown. A live video webcast of the contest can be streamed online through the official Northwoods League website. Fans can also listen to the live audio broadcast on WOCO Radio (107.1 FM, 1260 AM) or online at WOCO.Caster.FM.
Green Bay's entire starting batting order posted at least one hit in the contest, contributing to the Bullfrog's offensive explosion. Rudy Aguilar (Sophomore, St. Johns) led the relentless attack, finishing 3-for-5 at the plate with a RBI and run scored. Cooper Morrison (Sophomore, UC Davis) tallied a game-high three RBIs in a 2-for-3 effort with a pair of runs scored.
Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) finished 2-for-4 with two runs driven in, while Eddy Gonzalez (Junior, Incarnate Word) went 2-for-5 at the dish with two runs scored and a RBI. Collin Luty (Junior, Northern Kentucky) and Ethan Ibarra (Junior, St. Cloud State) each contributed a 2-for-5 performance on the night.
For the first time in the four-game Michigan road trip, the Bullfrogs took the first lead of the contest. A two-RBI triple by Morrison gave Green Bay an early 2-0 advantage in the opening frame. The offense quickly went back to work in the second inning as a RBI double by Jake Munoz (Sophomore, Univ. of San Francisco) and two-run double from Maris extended the lead out to 5-0. Battle Creek briefly ended the five-run stretch in the bottom of the second on a RBI single to make it a 5-1 game.
One inning later, Riley Mihalik's (Junior, Rider Univ.) run-scoring ground out and a RBI base-knock by Luty stretched the advantage back out to 7-1. The Bombers answered again with a RBI double in the third to cut the deficit down to 7-2.
In the visiting half of the fourth, Green Bay's offense continued to show no mercy starting with a RBI single from Gonzalez to make it 8-2. Tate Soderstrom (Freshman, Univ. of Arizona) drove home his first run of the season on a double followed by a RBI one-bagger from Morrison extend the lead out to a commanding 10-2 margin.
Battle Creek tallied five combined runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but the late push was not enough as Bullfrogs relief pitchers Tyler Rosas (Junior, Dixie State) and Travis Kuhn (R-Freshman, San Diego) held the Bombers scoreless in the final two frames. The Frogs added an insurance tally in the sixth on a run-scoring single from Aguilar.
Green Bay starting pitcher Will Shirah (Freshman, Georgia Tech) got the win, improving to 1-1. Shirah tossed five complete innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts in his second start of the summer. Battle Creek starter Kenuel Dominguez took the loss, falling to 0-2.
