June 12, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Fond du Lac Dock Spiders News Release
FOND DU LAC, WI- The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (7-8) were on the losing end against the Battle Creek Bombers (4-10) with a score of 6-2.
For the first five innings of play it was safe to say that it was an absolute pitchers duel. Jon Mierzwa (Catholic University) got his second start of the season and pitched 5 2/3, giving up just 3 hits. The Laurel, MD native retired the side three straight times coming in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings. Despite being credited with the loss it was a very fine evening on the mound for Mierzwa.
Michael McCraith (Wheaton College) got the start on the mound for the Bombers where he pitched 7 1/3 finishing with a stat line of; 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 BB, and 9 K's on 27 batters faced.
Unfortunately for Fondy, the Bombers were able to grab three straight RBI singles and an RBI double and took the lead 4-0 after 6 innings.
After Battle Creek tacked on one more in the top of the 8th leading now 5-0, Mitch Boe (Iowa) was up at the dish in the bottom of the 8th with 2 outs. Boe would smack a single into right center field which sent home Troy Black (Kentucky) and Duncan Hewitt (Butler). The two runs would not be enough as the Dock Spiders fell to Battle Creek in the first meeting of the year between the two teams.
Fond du Lac will be able to try and get revenge over the Bombers tomorrow night as they will face off at Herr-Baker Field at 6:35 tomorrow night.
