Gwinnett Stripers News Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. - The Buffalo Bisons scored three times in the top of the eighth inning to overcome a two-run deficit and defeat the Gwinnett Braves 4-3 on Monday night at Coolray Field. Rob Johnson drove a full count pitch from right-hander Jaye Chapman into left field to score the tying and go-ahead runs. Right-hander Julio Teheran's first quality start of 2012 went by the wayside with the Buffalo comeback.

The G-Braves held a 3-1 lead entering the eighth. Right-hander Erik Cordier pitched a scoreless seventh inning, but allowed a one-out single to Dustin Martin and a two-out walk to Josh Satin. Chapman was called upon to work out of the jam, but walks to Matt Tuiasosopo and Fred Lewis forced in a run and cut the Gwinnett lead to 3-2. Chapman (L, 1-2) then loaded the count to Johnson before allowing his two-run single under a diving attempt from third baseman Joey Terdoslavich.

Bisons' right-hander Elvin Ramirez (W, 1-0), the fourth of six pitchers used by Buffalo on the night, earned the win with 0.2 scoreless innings. Left-hander Justin Hampson (H, 3) added 0.2 scoreless frames and right-hander Fernando Cabrera (S, 7) turned in a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts.

Buffalo held a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Martin in the third inning, but the G-Braves tied the score with a run in the bottom half of the third. Jose Constanza reached on a bunt single and scored on Ernesto Mejia's RBI single. Constanza finished his impressive game going 3-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored.

The reigning IL Batter of the Week, Stefan Gartrell blasted a solo home run to center off Bisons' starter Chris Schwinden in the fourth inning, giving Gwinnett a 2-1 lead. Gartrell had replaced Jordan Parraz defensively in the second inning after Parraz exited the game following a hit-by-pitch. With his team-leading fifth homer, Gartrell extended his hitting streak to eight games and his RBI streak to six games.

Luis Durango's RBI double in the seventh raised the lead to 3-1. That looked to be plenty to support Teheran, who yielded just an unearned run on five hits over 6.0 innings. The right-hander walked one while striking out three, throwing 90 pitches, 55 for strikes.

Johnson, however, stole the show with his game-winning hit. The Buffalo catcher finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.

The Gwinnett Braves (19-11) and Buffalo Bisons (18-13) continue the series on Tuesday night at Coolray Field, first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Eric Junge (3-2, 3.10) will get the start for the G-Bravse, while Buffalo counters with right-hander Matt Harvey (2-1, 4.80). Listen to the broadcast on WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM with Tony Schiavone calling the play-by-play.

Tuesday is "2 for 1 Tuesday" where tickets are available every Tuesday with valid coupon. Visit www.gwinnettbraves.com/Tuesday to print your coupon. Some seating level restrictions apply (limit 6 tickets per group).
