Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons face the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons in the finale of their four-game home-and home series at Dunn Tire Park (7:35 p.m.). Buffalo is in position to earn a split tonight after picking up a 6-1 victory last night. In yesterday's game, the Herd jumped out to an early lead while three Bisons pitchers held the Red Barons to just one run on seven hits. On the mound for Buffalo tonight will RHP Fausto Carmona. Carmona last pitched for Buffalo on Saturday, earning the victory in his first start of the season for the Herd. Opposing Carmona will be RHP Gavin Floyd, who earned a no-decision on Sunday against Charlotte (8.0IP, 9H, 2R, 6K).

OVER THE HILL: The Bisons will be going for their 50th win of the season today. If achieved, it would be the fastest the Bisons won 50 games since 2001 (72nd game, 6/22/01). Last year, the Herd didn't win their 50th game until its 90th game on July 10.

FOUR FOR FOUR: Bisons' pitcher Fausto Carmona is a perfect 4-0 in his four starts with the Bisons in his career. He won the Bisons season finale last year before going 2-0 with a 2.77ERA for the Herd in the 2004 IL Playoffs. Carmona pitched eight strong innings (4H, 1R, 8K) last Saturday to defeat the Durham Bulls in his 2005 debut.

PAINFUL AT-BATS: International League pitching has taken aim on the Bisons batters this season,... literally. Buffalo hitters have been hit by a pitch 63 times, 13 more than any other team (Columbus, 50) in the league. The average number of hit-by-pitches for the rest of the league is 35 per team. Bisons' slugger Mike Kinkade (19) has been hit almost as many times as the entire Norfolk Tides' roster (21).

MONSTER MONTH: How good was Bisons' slugger Jeff Liefer in June? He finished in the Top 5 in the IL in almost every offensive category. For the month Liefer was 3rd in average (.385), 2nd in RBI (28), 2nd in doubles (13), 3rd in extra-base hits (20), 1st in runs scored (26) and 4th in slugging percentage (.740). For the year, Liefer is 8th in the league with a .322 average.

ROSTER MOVE: With an open roster spot, the Bisons called up Jose Morban from Double-A Akron today. With the Aeros, Morban hit .254 (62-244) with eight home runs and 31RBI in 63 games. He spent time at second base, third base, shortstop, left field, centerfield and right field for Akron this season.
