Ottawa uses five-run seventh to defeat Indianapolis, 9-4

OTTAWA, Ontario -- Ottawa plated five insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh en route to a 9-4 win over Indianapolis Friday afternoon at Lynx Stadium. The Lynx improve to 40-40 with the victory, while the Indians fall to 46-35 on the season.

The Tribe took the early lead with two runs in the top of the first. LF Yurendell de Caster blasted a double off the center-field wall and DH Ty Wigginton followed with his sixth homer of the season to left.

Ottawa knotted the game at two in the home half of the first with a two-run roundtripper by LF Midre Cummings. The Lynx added a run in the second when RF Napoleon Calzado belted a long ball off the left-field foul pole.

Indianapolis tied the game back up with a run in the sixth. Wigginton, RF Graham Koonce and C Ronny Paulino knocked three consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs. 1B Brad Eldred followed with a sacrifice fly to bring Wigginton plateward.

The Lynx put up another tally in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good. DH Walter Young singled to center, advanced to second on a walk and came around to score when C Eli Whiteside smacked a single through the left side.

Ottawa pushed across five insurance runs in the seventh with the big blow coming on a grand slam by 1B Alejandro Freire.

Ottawa RHP Andy Mitchell earned the win (5.1 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO) out of the bullpen, improving to 6-0. Indians RHP Justin Reid (6.0 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 1 SO) took the loss, falling to 6-5.

2B Shaun Skrehot, De Caster and Wigginton recorded two hits apiece for Indianapolis, while 2B Bernie Castro, SS Ed Rogers, Young and Calzado all tallied two base knocks for the Lynx.

The Indians move on to Louisville Saturday to play the first of two games at Louisville Slugger Field. The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM as Howard Kellman and Robert Portnoy have the call. Saturday's pre-game show begins at 4:55 p.m. with the first pitch scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
